Sailing the Rhone from Viviers to Tournon
We left Viviers as we were eating lunch, and started sailing up the Rhone river. It's a beautiful day, about 23 C, sunny with next to no wind. A perfect day to head up to the Sun Deck and listen to the commentary from the cruise director as we watched the scenery drift by.
We went through locks and under bridges. Some so low that the wheelhouse was lowered, and those of us on the Sun deck had to sit down! The locks are all automated, and the structures are also a dam and generate electricity. Most of them also have a road on top so they act as a bridge as well. Very pretty countryside with mostly small villages, one town of Montelimar, and farm land. We passed one of the largest nuclear plants in France. The Alps are visible off in the distance. A really beautiful day!
