Rome to Azamara Quest
This was another transition day. I woke up fairly early, and decided to walk over to the Spanish Steps about 8am. Streets are not as crowded at that time, and this morning was cool but sunny, good for a brisk walk. About a 20 minute walk one-way from our hotel. One big group at the stairs, but otherwise not so busy. Then I walked over to get a good overlook of Rome. A beautiful morning! Back to the hotel for breakfast, then to re-pack. We then walked over to Karen and Aaron's hotel where the transfer was picking us up. Of course crazy traffic. It was stop and go until we got out of the downtown area. About 1 1/2 hours to Civitavecchia. The port area was confusing, as there was no signage. The driver circled around a bit to figure out where to drop us off. Check-in for the cruise was very smooth with no lineups. We got there about 1;30pm and walked through baggage drop-off, security and check-in. We headed right up to the buffet for a snack, then to our cabins to unpack. This cruise we are in standard Oceanview cabins. I really like this location on deck 4 near the Customer service desk. Very central. We then went up on deck to enjoy the sun. About 21C this afternoon, with a light breeze. There are 4 other Mega cruise ships in port, the largest with over 6000 passengers! We have just under 700 passengers so tiny in caparison.
Up on the pool deck, a sax player provided sail-away music. We headed for dinner just before 7pm, a lovely menu, hard to decide. I have prawns as a starter, then paella. The dining room is busy tonight! Karen and I go to the welcome show, then time for bed.
