Lyon to Rome

This day was a  bit difficult, as it started very early. Our suitcases needed to be out by 3:45am, with our transfer to the airport at 4:30am. There was only 1 direct flight so no choice! Everything went very smoothly though, with a Viking transfer to the airport, and the Lyon airport was not very busy at that time of day. Our Easyjet flight to Rome was on time, and we had a driver to take us from the airport to the hotel. Rome is very busy, and lots of traffic! We are staying at the Trevi Palace hotel, a quirky 3 star hotel in a great location. Karen and Aaron are staying at another hotel nearby, so as our room won't be ready until noon we walk over to the H10 Palazzo Galla. They have already been in Rome for a few days so we got caught up on what they've been doing. Then back to our hotel as our room was ready, and the bags brought up. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, explaining the after hours entrance, the security systems, and offering tips on what to see and suggesting restaurants.

Ian and I had a much needed nap, then went for a little walk in the area of Colonna Traiana. It's very busy, and there is a lot of construction/restoration going on which makes it seem even more crowded. Still, so amazing to see. As I mentioned before, our hotel has a great location, less than 10 minutes to walk to this area in the heart of Rome.

We then joined Karen and Aaron for a drink on the roof-top bar at their hotel. They treated us to Negronis and a great view! A little later we headed out for dinner at a pizza restaurant recommended by our hotel. L'Angolo di Napoli. We all ordered different pizzas and swapped around to try them all. And they were all delicious as was the bottle of Chianti. Mine was called Funiculi Funicula with mozzarella, zucchini flowers and anchovies. Fairly early to bed tonight after the very early start. So a wonderful finish to the day!
